I am so excited for this tutorial today! I am making a recipe from a new book that is coming out called Cake Balls by Dede Wilson. The recipe is called Toffee-Brown Butter-Pecan. It has a great butter flavor that is incorporated throughout the whole recipe and also compliments the pecans. This is a very rich flavor! I also show you how to dip the cake balls into the white chocolate and then to decorate them beautifully :)
(If you just want a tutorial on how to make cake balls instead of watching the recipe start the video at 5:44)
One of the things that I love about this book is that all of the recipes are so unique! They include everything from apple pie and chocolate cookie dough to creme brulee and vegan chocolate! It really has something for everyone. I can't wait to try some more of these recipes!
Here are the exact measurements:
Pecan Toffee:
-4 tablespoons unsalted butter
-1/2 cup sugar
-Pinch of salt
-3/4 cup toasted pecan halves
Frosting:
-6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
-3 cups confectioners' sugar
-2 tablespoons whole milk
-1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Let me know if you try this recipe and what you think! Good luck!!

I'm thinking of trying this this coming weekend, and wish you'd been able to include actual amounts of various ingredients as the book isn't out yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of all the butter, though. :)
I updated the exact measurements on the post :) For the cake it might be easier to just make your own recipe for a regular yellow cake.
DeleteLet me know how it goes! :)
Wow! You are awesome! I'm going to make these for my Sunday brunch and will definitely report back!
DeleteThanks!
I'm not sure of the break-down for the frosting between softened butter and browned butter. Looks like 4 Tbls browned and 2 soft?
DeleteMy pecans are cooling on the counter now, but I may not have let the sugar cook long enough; it still looks a bit grainy. Tastes great though!
Oh sorry yes that is right! 4 tbsp browned and 2 tbsp soft! Thanks for clarifying :)
DeleteThat's awesome! I'm so excited you are trying it!
I finished them and they are sooooo tasty!
ReplyDeleteMy white chocolate seized after I finished half of them (I think the humidity here made them condense water from being frozen), so I added dark chocolate chips to get it melty again and did the rest with that.
Wow. Awesome recipe, and thank you SO much for your videos, and your quick replies on this one!
I am so glad!! Thank you for trying it and working out the kinks :) No problem I hope they were great for your Sunday brunch!
